Kenyans living in Nairobi, Mombasa, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, have been warned to expect heavy rains on Thursday, November 14, and Friday, November 15.
In an advisory by the Kenya Meteorological Department, Kenyans have been warned of potential floods on these two days.
"Rainfall of more than 20mm in 24hrs is expected from Thursday, November 14, in parts of Central Rift Valley, Central including Nairobi and South East lowlands.
"The rainfall is likely to increase to 30mm in 24hrs on Friday, November 15, over southeastern lowlands and central parts including Nairobi area," part of the statement read.
Other counties that could experience heavy rainfall include; Meru, Kirinyaga, Murang'a Nyeri Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Isiolo, Kericho, Bomet, Narok parts of Kajiado, and Makueni.
Kenyans living downstream rivers and alongside seasonal rivers have been advised to be careful since 'water may appear suddenly even though it may be raining within the areas'.
Locals have also been warned against driving and walking through the rain for safety.
"Residents are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lighting strikes", the advisory noted.
Those residing in landslide-prone areas, especially over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mt. Kenya, and other hilly areas have been advised to be vigilant.
Earlier this week, Kenya Met warned of cold nights in several areas. The advisory noted that night temperatures were expected to drop to 10°C this week, before rising to 11°C towards the weekend.
In its announcement, the weatherman urged residents of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet were cautioned to brace for high daytime temperatures of up to 33°C.
Other counties that were cautioned to prepare for hot days include Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
