The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday classified as fake reports that its detectives had arrested two suspects for breaking into the State House in Mombasa and sleeping on President William Ruto's bed.

This is after a fake news communique made rounds on the internet claiming that the two suspects nabbed by DCI detectives were arrested sleeping in President Ruto’s king-size bed.

The false news alleged that the two suspects broke into Mombasa State House through an open window just to feel how comfortable a president’s bed is.

The Agency, however, maintained that the two were not arrested for breaking into the State House as alleged. Instead, they were arrested along Digo Road in the Coastal City.

“Contrary to some fake news doing rounds in the online space, two suspects were arrested on November 11, 2024, by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Central Police Station Mombasa, for the offence of handling suspected stolen properties,” DCI clarified in a statement.

The false news purported that the two suspects were nabbed after cooks heard snoring sounds coming from the President’s bedroom which they alerted the guards.

Reportedly, no items were damaged or stolen during the incident raising suspicions on the intentions of the two suspects.

According to the DCI, the two suspects, one aged 20 years and the other 29 years, insist the two were nabbed following a tip-off from concerned members of the public who suspected the two of dealing in illegal goods.

Acting swiftly from the tip-off, sleuths drawn from Mombasa raided the residents of the suspects at the Rio Building along Digo Road where an assortment of stolen goods were recovered.

Among the stolen goods recovered were 51 mobile phones and several laptops among other items worth over Ksh1.2 million.

It comes barely a day after the DCI arrested a notorious suspect in Kasarani, Nairobi who conned a foreign national over Ksh500,000 after stupefying his drink.

The suspect was on the police radar for some time following a series of reports made against her. It was reported the suspect also robbed the Chad national of two mobile phones among other items before fleeing the scene.
