Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has assured Kenyans that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is fine following yesterday’s attack at a funeral in Kiambu County.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, on Friday, November 29, the Senator revealed he had a phone conversation with Gachagua moments after the attack during which the former DP informed about an invitation to attend another burial ceremony in Murang’a.

According to Karung’o, despite yesterday’s attack that left several people injured, the former DP assured him that he would attend the burial event scheduled to take place in Murang’a on Friday, November 29.

While opining on Gachagua’s current security crisis, the Senator disclosed a plan to compel President William Ruto’s administration to offer him (Gachagua) much-needed protection.

“I talked to him and he is alright... he told me he had been invited to a burial event in Murang’a and would be attending the event,” said Karung’o Wa Thang’wa.

The Senator further said he would be appearing at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nyeri to detail yesterday's incident that led to damage of property.

On Thursday, November 28, the lawmaker revealed that he had been summoned by the DCI officers to shed light on the commotion that happened in Limuru, Kiambu County on Thursday afternoon.

Specifically, Karungo was summoned to provide information about the alleged malicious damage to property. “I have a reason to believe that you, Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa have information which will assist with my investigations,” read part of the summon letter.

Commenting on the alleged abduction of former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, the legislator said that a search for the ex-lawmaker was still in progress and that they were yet to obtain information about his whereabouts.

Karungo Wa Thang'wa's comments come hardly a day after former DP Gachagua was attacked at a funeral in Kiambu County by goons who also destroyed his vehicle.

Speaking to the press after the attack, Gachagua's allies termed the incident as an attempted assassination of the former DP.

Wa Thang'wa, while addressing the press at the DCI headquarters in Kiambu, called for an immediate probe into the incident. According to him, what transpired was carried out by hired goons by the government.

"We are here to say that it was an attempted assassination of Rigathi Gachagua and this is being done in Mt Kenya only. We truly believe it was a well-planned incident," the senator told the press.
