The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced continued rainfall in different parts of the county for the next five days from Friday, November 29 to Tuesday, December 3.
Kenya Met Director General David Gikungu on Friday, November 29, announced that rainfall was expected to continue over the Highlands East region, the West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, the Coastal region, North-western and North-eastern Kenya.
In his weekend advisory, Gikungu revealed that isolated heavy rainfall events were likely to occur over some parts of these regions during the first half of the forecast period. He noted that the distribution of rains was expected to be intense, marked by occasional thunderstorms.
Kenyans living in the Highland East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi were cautioned to brace for moderate to heavy rains over the next five days.
According to the Kenya Met boss, rainfall in the above counties was expected to begin in the morning and end in the afternoon. However, for the last two days of the forecast, rains were projected to continue into the night.
The Lake region and Rift Valley counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet were also projected to receive heavy rains for a better part of the forecast.
Gikungu also predicted a similar weather pattern in the counties of Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
In the Southeastern and Coastal counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale, Gikungu said light rains were expected particularly in the afternoon.
Temperature Advisory
The meteorological department in its weekend advisory also warned of very cold night temperatures in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi.
According to the weather department, the night temperatures in the above counties were expected to drop to 6°C in the first three days of the forecast before rising to 9°C for the rest of the days.
Additionally, residents living in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet were cautioned to brace for high daytime temperatures of up to 35°C.
Other counties that were cautioned to prepare for hot days include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
