Kenyans on social media were left stunned on Tuesday night after a section of students from St. Anne's Girls Secondary School, located along Jogoo Road in Nairobi, were forced to spend a part of the night outside in the cold.

This is after reports confirmed that the school principal sent the girls out of the school compound over fee arrears.

The directive was despite the Ministry of Education's assurance to parents and subsequent directive to principals not to send students home over school fee arrears.

According to a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the students who were left to camp outside the main school gate revealed that some of them were sent away as early as 10 am.

The students noted that some of them, having travelled for long distance, were left with no choice but to camp outside the school gates hoping to be allowed back in. However, as night fell, their hopes began to fade.

''I was sent away because I had just paid half the amount that was required for fees. There was nothing that I could do. I come from Kisii,'' a student stated explaining the mistreatment they were subjected to.

The students were only admitted to the school after it took the intervention of Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa who sent a team to attend to the standoff.

''Following reports that some students at St. Anne's Girls Secondary School were left stranded outside the premises, I immediately dispatched my team to assess the situation,'' Aladwa stated.

''I have since instructed the school management to grant access to the students, and I am pleased to confirm that the situation has now been resolved, with all students safely inside the school,'' he added.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos was yet to address the matter at the time of publishing this story. Additionally, our attempts to contact the school proved unsuccessful.

The events leading to the locking of the students away from the school are set to spark outage and controversy especially after the government has in the recent past made it clear that no student would be sent away from school over fee arrears.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry and Teachers Service Commission are expected to state the action course that they will be taking on the principal.
