Teremi High School in Bungoma County was indefinitely closed on Tuesday, January 21, following student unrest that took place on Monday night.

A source who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke indicated that the strike was fueled by declining performance in the KCSE examination since a new principal joined the school about four years ago.

To express their frustrations, they stormed the principal's home damaging his property including a house and vehicle.

Images obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the badly damaged vehicle with the windscreen and glass windows completely crashed.

His house, on the other hand, bore evidence of being stoned with all the window panes broken.

Reportedly, the principal escaped an actual physical attack when police officers quelled the strike by firing in the air and dispersing the rowdy students.

In the 2024 KCSE examination, the school scored a mean grade of C (6.0618) recording only one A grade out of 651 students who sat for the exam.

Although 213 of the students achieved the minimum university entry grade of C+ (plus), the students did not relent in their attack.

In a more concerning report, a total of 36 candidates were awarded a Y in the examination further fueling the students' frustration.

A week ago, it was reported that parents stormed the school seeking answers over a large number of Y grades, something that has reportedly never happened before.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) awards Y grades to students whose results have been cancelled due to exam irregularities.

In the results released on January 9, a total of 840 candidates countrywide had their results cancelled.
