The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday announced the arrest of two notorious robbers who had been targeting banking halls.
In a statement, the DCI revealed that the two thieves had targeted several vehicles parked at banking halls across the country.
Their arrest resulted from a well-coordinated operation between investigators and the cooperation of a bank manager at a local branch in Utawala.
Following their capture, the police established that the two had been involved in a series of other robberies, including car break-ins and theft.
The police also uncovered a report indicating that the suspects were wanted for a separate robbery reported at Bensquare Police Post on November 23, 2024.
In that incident, which involved breaking into a locked car, the robbers made off with Ksh500,000.
The suspects are currently awaiting processing at a police station before being arraigned to face charges.
This arrest comes just two months after the DCI apprehended a similar syndicate targeting parked cars for spare parts in Kajiado County.
The syndicate was suspected of involvement in car raids where they would steal valuable car parts. Reportedly, they preferred to carry out the raids during rainy weather.
One such robbery was captured on CCTV footage, showing gang members breaking into a car, with one steering the wheel while another pushed it back before stripping it of valuable spare parts.
Spare parts, including number plates, side mirrors, and headlights, among other items, were recovered during their arrests.
Another similar arrest was made in October last year in Kitale, where two thieves were caught on camera attempting to steal Ksh500,000 left unattended inside a car parked in a business complex.
