Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, on Monday, February 3, detailed a conversation with his former political adversary-turned-friend Uhuru Kenyatta, who gave him a brutal reality check about Kenyan politics.

In a candid interview with Mark Masai, which was aired on social media platforms, Kalonzo Musyoka opened up on several issues, including Raila Odinga's latest political stance, his presidential ambitions, and overall plans to take down President William Ruto in the 2027 polls.

One of the most striking revelations from the former Vice President was a conversation with Uhuru, who pointed out the Wiper Party leader's biggest shortcomings.

"Recently, I met with Uhuru Kenyatta, and I hope he will not mind me saying this, but he told me, 'My brother Steve, forgive me for what I am about to tell you. The problem with you is you're too trusting,'" Kalonzo explained.

While admitting that he 'has been played', Kalonzo detailed the betrayal he endured when he worked as Odinga's running mate over the years.

According to the Wiper Party leader, there was an agreement in place to deputise Raila during the 2013 and 2017 polls, with Raila expected to throw his weight behind Kalonzo in 2022. That, of course, did not happen.

He went on, "The agreement was, win or lose, to support Kalonzo Musyoka in 2022, and that is what Uhuru meant when he said I was too trusting."

"I will forever thank Uhuru because now I have to be less trusting on these issues of leadership. I have been played."

Kalonzo also detailed the surprise he was hit with when he was informed that he had to interview to be Raila's running mate during one of the presidential races, despite the pair's history.

With Raila now focused on his African Union Commission (AUC) bid, Kalonzo finds himself in a precarious position, with many touting him as the opposition leader.

While maintaining that he had no issues with Raila, the Wiper Party leader also admitted that the previously formidable Azimio coalition was on its deathbed.

"I have no issues with him. I wish him well in his AUC chairmanship. As of now, we are in Azimio, which is almost spent," he said.

Kalonzo and Uhuru have enjoyed a decent relationship, with the latter recently attending Kalonzo’s daughter Damarie Saada's wedding in December 2024.
