Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) chairperson, Johnson Nzioka, has tragically passed away.
Nzioka, who was until his passing a headteacher at Donholm Primary School in Nairobi, passed on in a tragic accident along Mombasa Road on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, his car rammed into a trailer near Athi River and he sustained injuries which he ultimately succumbed to.
Reports indicated that he was travelling towards Nairobi along the busy road and his speeding car rammed into a trailer while trying to avoid hitting another vehicle.
Following reports of his death, he was eulogised by several prominent politicians in Nairobi including Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino who referred to him as his friend.
"I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family of Johnson Nzioka; Headteacher Donholm Primary School whose car rammed into a trailer along Mombasa Road. Rest in Peace my friend," Owino stated on social media.
Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko also mourned Nzioka, writing, "KEPSHA Chairman Johnson Nzioka dies in a tragic road accident in Athi River~Machakos. May his soul rest in peace."
A seasoned educationist, Nzioka has been a headteacher for over two decades in several schools across Nairobi.
In his capacity as the KEPSHA chair, he led over 24,000 primary school heads and more than eight million learners across the country.
Before taking over the association's leadership in 2021, his keen interest in co-curricular activities garnered him a spot as the Sub-County Chairman of the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association. He later took over as the National Vice-Chairperson of the same organisation in 2015.
His passion for leadership in the education sector was also demonstrated in his position as the Organising Secretary of the Federation of East African Primary Schools Headteachers.
After taking over the National Leadership of KEPSHA from Nicholas Gathemia upon his retirement in March 2021, the seasoned headteacher promised to lead dialogue and negotiation and empower members to nurture education across primary schools in the country.
"I promise to lead with dialogue and negotiation, ensuring that our members are empowered to nurture education across primary schools in the country," he stated in his speech.
