Police in Kiambu have launched a probe after the lifeless body of a man was found along the Southern Bypass with suspected foul play in his death.
According to Kabete DCIO, Winnie Kendah, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has begun investigating whether the man jumped to his death, fell, or was pushed.
“We assure the members of the public that we'll conduct investigations so that we are able to establish whether he actually fell or maybe there's foul play behind the death of the deceased,” the DCIO told the press on Tuesday.
The police say they were called to the scene by residents who found the body of the man believed to be about 36 years old.
According to the DCIO, preliminary investigations indicated that the man fell from the service lane within the Southern Bypass to the other side of the road.
“We suspect the deceased had actually fallen from the service lane within the Southern Bypass and fell on the other side of the road, which is approximately 20 meters from the higher side of the service lane, and sustained head injuries,” the DCIO revealed.
The man’s remains have been identified by the family, indicating he is a resident of Kabete.
His body was moved to the PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
A family member who spoke to the press confirmed the incident saying the police have assured the family of speedy investigations.
Residents from Wangige, Kibiku area of the county, claim the area has been insecure with a rise in the number of thefts.
“We are asking KeNHA and the county to collaborate to install lights for these incidents to go down,” one resident said.
Another asserted that deaths on the Southern Bypass have increased with security deteriorating.
“There has been a rise in the deaths on the Southern Bypass, and we are asking the government to install more signs and increase the security,” he added.
In December, one incident resulted in a public outcry after a family travelling from Bomet to Nairobi encountered stones deliberately placed on the road near the Dagoretti-Karen turnoff.
After their vehicle's tires burst, a machete-wielding assailant attacked them, inflicting serious injuries on three siblings and robbing them of valuables.
Police arrested a man accused of perpetrating the robbery, and he is currently going through the judicial system.
