According to Murang'a County Senator Joe Nyutu, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga stands to become more powerful than President William Ruto, if he joins the government that is.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, March 3, the senator said that Ruto does not have any other plan other than joining forces with Raila, a situation that has made him more vulnerable to the former Prime Minister.

"I have all the reasons to believe that Raila is about to be made co-president and I even dare say that should this arrangement come to pass, Raila will not just be a co-president but he will be more powerful than President Ruto in that particular arrangement," he said.

"I say that because as things stand now, President Ruto has no other plan other than hanging on Raila, and so whatever Raila asks, he will get it from William Ruto," he added.

The senator further asserted that the inclusivity of the former prime minister in the government will be fundamental for Ruto to recover his lost supporters who have shifted to the opposition.

As of now, Raila's stance on which side he will join, the opposition or the govt, remains unclear.

The ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga, on the other hand, revealed on Monday, March 3, that Raila is winding up his consultations with his supporters across the country to determine which side he is going to pick ahead of the 2027 campaigns.

"So far, ODM and Kenya Kwanza do not have any formal agreement or documentation defining our agreement so as soon as the party leader came back, he began consultations and the consultations are with his supporters to ask which direction he should take. After he is through with the consultations, he will bring (findings) to the organs of the party and give us the direction," she stated.

"Currently our arrangement is we have people from ODM working in the executive that we can't run away from but we have also seen the former Deputy President and the others also saying that Raila please make up your mind which way you are going and we are also going to consider all those things because we have to see what most aligns to what you believe," she stated.

Despite being on cordial terms with the Kenya Kwanza Government, he has been keen on calling out President William Ruto's regime, presumably to maintain some degree of impartiality.

Speaking in Mombasa on Sunday, March 3, the ODM leader called for the compensation of victims affected by political protests dating back to 2023 and last year during the Gen Z protests.

"The youth who sustained injuries and parents of those who died in 2023 during the Azimio protests and the Gen Z protests of last year have to be compensated," Raila said.

"Those are the conditions we are setting. But the most important thing is that such incidents should not be happening in our country," he added.
