Malava MP, the late Malulu Injendi, was in high spirits and on the road to recovery in the days leading up to his untimely death, his wife, Betty Malulu, has revealed.

Speaking during the late lawmaker's burial ceremony in Lukusi Village on Tuesday, March 4, the deceased's wife opened up about the weeks before the MP succumbed to illness.

She recalled how Malulu was initially sceptical about visiting a health facility when he first started experiencing symptoms suggesting all was not well with his health.

According to Betty, when Malulu first exhibited signs of extreme weakness, she urged him to get checked, but the lawmaker was adamant that he was fine.

"He told me he was not one to go to hospital often and insisted he was just tired," she explained. "When he finally went to hospital he came back and told me the doctors informed him that he was suffering from fatigue and needed to rest."

Betty further revealed that her late husband had an official function in Malava when his health deteriorated further, but the MP insisted on attending the event despite her pleas to postpone the engagement.

"I advised him that he could always postpone the event and hold it at a later time since he wasn’t feeling well. However, he was determined to proceed," she said, adding that she accompanied the MP to his sports event, which he was eager to ensure was a success.

Days after the event, Malulu returned with his wife to Nairobi, where his health deteriorated further, prompting Betty to call their son, Rhyan Injendi. The MP was eventually taken to Nairobi Hospital, where he was diagnosed with malaria, a bacterial infection, among other ailments.

After treatment, Malulu made a remarkable improvement in his health, with his wife detailing how doctors described him as a miracle patient. Despite showing promise in his recovery, the MP passed away three days after seemingly being on the road to full recovery.

The late MP’s son, Rhyan, also paid a glowing tribute, eulogising his father as a selfless gentleman who put the needs of his electorate before himself.

Before his death, news of Malulu’s hospitalisation was rife in January—the same month when Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa was forced to address rumours of his early death.

The late MP was known for his bold and outspoken nature, earning admiration for his willingness to speak out against issues he disagreed with.

As recently as November 2024, the lawmaker went after the church for rejecting President William Ruto's cash donations.
