A fun swimming day for school-going children turned out to be the worst nightmare for parents after their daughter lost her life during the activity.

The pupils had gone out for the usual swimming fun day activities at a fun park in Kamulu when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to the minor's parents, their daughter was found dead at the deep end of the swimming pool. The father of the child is blaming both the school and the facility for sheer negligence.

"I was with my daughter at 11:15 am, and by 1:15pm she had died. For my daughter to be found at the deep end of the swimming pool, it means that there was nobody around; there was no lifesaver, and that is why she died," the father painfully narrated.

Efforts by the parents to get proper communication from the facility about what happened landed on deaf ears as they received no communication. Meanwhile, swimming activities in the facility are going on swiftly.

In a bid to seek justice for his daughter, the father reached out to the Chief Officer of Health in Nairobi City County, Geoffrey Mosiria, who has equally condemned the incident.

"The parents have been following up with the management to find out what exactly happened, but they are yet to get any responses. According to the postmortem that was conducted, it is evident the child died from drowning," Mosiria said.

"My plea goes to the Kamulu police station; I am asking them to take the matter seriously and begin investigations into the matter. The facility should also be closed to allow investigations," Mosiria continued.

Mosiria has also called on the Ruai Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) and the Kamulu Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) to follow up on the incident and ensure that the parents get answers on what happened to the child and that the perpetrators are held accountable.

The school's class representative, other parents, and neighbors have called on the authorities to hasten the investigations and take action against the facility to ensure such an incident doesn't recur.

It was revealed that the facility did not observe safety measures for swimming areas. They did not have guardrails on the swimming pool, nor was there a safety emergency area.

They also did not have a safety attendant on site and were playing loud music that could have hindered any efforts to hear a victim shouting for help.

Play parks in the country have been asked to be careful and comply with safety measures. Just a week ago, two university students drowned during a fun day out at a popular 'park and chill' spot off Thika Road in the Mugutha area of Juja sub-county.
