Former NTV journalist Kennedy Murithi has requested President William Ruto to consider appointing him as Kenya’s ambassador to Ghana.

In a brief video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the former senior political affairs reporter expressed his willingness to serve in a top government position.

While reacting to the appointments made by President Ruto yesterday, Murithi said he went through the list of the appointees and realised there was still a vacant slot.

“Mr President, I am very grateful about the appointments you made yesterday, and as Kennedy Murithi I am still waiting for you to appoint me,” Muriithi said.

He went on to add, “I went through the list and realised you haven't appointed a representative in Ghana so it means you are still thinking about me.”

According to Murithi, he recently submitted his credentials for the ambassadorial position but was yet to receive a response from the Head of State, nonetheless, he expressed hope in being considered.

“I am ready as a young person, I have seen that you have given young people jobs, so you can add Kennedy Murithi to your list. Here in Kenya, we are ready to work, as the president please consider me,” Murithi noted.

Murithi left the NMG in December 2022 after serving at the media house for about 10 years. He joined the media house in 2013 as a QTV news reporter and served for three years before he moved to NTV in June 2016.

His request for the job comes about two months after former ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Ndung’u rejected her nomination as Ambassador to Ghana.

In a formal letter to the National Assembly Committee on Defence and National Relations dated 10 January, Ndung’u stated that she would not present herself for vetting as she had declined the nomination.

Ndung’u's decision to reject the nomination was widely regarded by Kenyans as a protest against what the former minister perceived as a demotion from her previous role.

She was the second nominee to decline the Accra posting, following former West Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka, who rejected the same role in April last year.
