Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has urged former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to advocate for Kenyans in general and not just the Mount Kenya region.

Speaking during an interview with NTV on Monday, March 24, Wamuchomba, who is a close ally of the former DP, said that Gachagua should be 'sensitive' and more accommodating to other communities to prove that he is a national leader.

According to Wamuchomba, she has already had a conversation 'many times' with Gachagua on the issue.

"He doesn't have to necessarily agree with me, but if it's a fact, it is a fact. Rigathi needs to realise that he has the mountain with him; he does not have to talk and punch again about the mountain," she stated.

"He must also dissociate himself from his campaigns with the mountain connotation because he has fought for the mountain enough," she said.

Acknowledging Gachagua's strong ability to push and advocate for issues affecting the Mount Kenya region, Wamuchomba urged the former DP to shift his focus and fight for other 'forgotten' communities in the country, since he already has the mountain with him.

"He needs to be seen to be more accommodating to other communities. The same energy he has been using to fight for the mountain, he needs to use to advocate for people who are evicted in other areas and the forgotten communities of this country. If he really is a national leader, we need to see him fighting for other Kenyans," she stated.

Wamuchomba asserted that fighting for other communities would amplify the former DP's push for lower taxation and other matters affecting the people of Kenya.

Wamuchomba was among Gachagua's allies who were removed as heads of key committees in the National Assembly on March 5, 2025.

She was removed as chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee and reassigned to the Members' Services Committee, a less influential role.

Other Gachagua allies who faced the axe were Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo.

The most notable figure to be removed as a committee head was Kiharu lawmaker Ndindi Nyoro, who was dismissed from his position as chair of the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriations. Nyoro however has remained silent on whether he supports Gachagua or not.
