Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, through the County Executive Committee Members (CECM), Education, Gender, Culture, and Social Services Mercy Njagi, has revoked the appointment of 22 members of the Ward Education Bursary Committees.

This comes two months after the Migori Public Service Board also dismissed 181 county workers from their various positions in the County Government.

In a Gazette Notice dated January 10, the Board revealed that most of the staff let go were from the Centre for International Health Education and Biosecurity (CIHEB) department.

Receiving their remuneration from CDC-USAID, the contracts in the department run until 30 September and are renewed upon request starting 1 October.

However, only 319 contracts were renewed, while the other 91 were terminated after reviewing several parameters, including staff performance appraisals, relevant academic documents, relevant registration and valid licences, as well as disciplinary cases. The diversity of the county and gender parity issues were also considered.

“It was formally brought to the attention of the Board that CIHEB had budget cuts for Migori, meaning the human capital had to be downsized,” the statement declared.
