As the Mt Kenya region gears for President William Ruto's tour amid the political supremacy battles and unease, it has emerged that he will arrange for another tour in August, four months after the end of the current tour.
Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi made the revelation over the weekend after a meeting that Ruto was personally in attendance.
According to Itumbi, the President himself endorsed the decisions based on the short timelines the next week tour will have.
Additionally, Itumbi indicated that the President is set to launch, inspect, and commission many projects in the region amid cries that have emerged in the past over the sidelining of the region.
''A moment with the president earlier today. Laikipia will be the first stop on Tuesday as he commissions, inspects, and starts of the many projects in the region,'' Itumbi stated.
Adding that, ''There are too many that a week will not be enough. He will have to schedule another week before August to be able to spotlight the many projects.''
Ruto's planned tour of the Mt Kenya region has been a subject of interest to political analysts who are weighing how he will be received in the region.
This is particularly because it will be the first time the Head of State will be visiting the region since the impeachment of his former Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua, on the other hand, has appeared to make attempts to gain control of the region's political course by maintaining to be the political leader of the region.
He has been hosting meetings at his Wamunyoro home and attending church events to try to jostle the region from Ruto and his allies.
On March 29, Gachagua cautioned Mt Kenya residents against believing Ruto’s promises when he visits the region next week.
While commenting on Ruto’s upcoming tour in the Mt Kenya region, Gachagua revealed a well-hatched plan by senior government officials to bribe the residents to cheer the president.
''Even now, he is preparing to visit this region with sacks of money. He is coming to lie, but I want to tell you to prepare and receive the money, but do not take it home,'' Gachagua stated.
During next week's tour, President Ruto is expected to begin his tour in Laikipia and Nyeri counties on Tuesday, Meru and Kirinyaga on Wednesday, and Nyandarua and Murang'a on Thursday, and conclude the tour on Friday in Tharaka Nithi.
