The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has invited Kenyans to express their views on the new proposed regulations aimed at enhancing its operations.
KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u, in a notice dated Tuesday, February, April 22, announced the introduction of the Kenya Roads (Kenya National Highways Authority) Regulations, 2025.
In his announcement, Ndung'u noted that the regulations, which are yet to become a law, were introduced after comprehensive consultations between the Authority and the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
The KeNHA boss disclosed that the proposed laws were meant to support the Authority to deliver on its mandate of managing National Trunk roads in the country.
"Under Section 46(2) (b) of The Kenya Roads Act 2007, the Authority in consultation with the Ministry of Roads and Transport have formulated the Kenya Roads (Kenya National Highways Authority) Regulations, 2025 to support delivery of its mandate of managing National Trunk roads in Kenya," read part of the notice.
"Per Article 10(2)(a) of the constitution of Kenya, KeNHA, through this notice, hereby invites members of the public for a validation workshop to discuss the draft Kenya Roads (Kenya National Highways Authority) Regulations, 2025," the notice added.
While inviting Kenyans to share their opinions, the Authority noted that the public engagements would be held on Thursday, May 18, at Barabara Plaza, Auditorium Hall, in Nairobi, starting at 9 am.
Alternatively, Kenyans seeking to express their views were urged to share their comments and inquiries through the Authority's email stakeholders@kenha.co.ke
The Kenya Roads (Kenya National Highways Authority) Regulations, 2025 plan to introduce a few amendments to the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, by realigning KeNHA's functions.
The bill, introduced in the National Assembly by Majority Leader Kimani Inchung'wah, also seeks to revise the term limit of the KeNHA Director General from five years to three years with an option of renewal.
Similarly, if the proposed law passes, the term limits of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) bosses would also be affected.
The piece of legislation further seeks to enhance processes within the three main road agencies and enhance public participation by complying with the Kenya Roads Act.
