The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that there will be traffic disruptions on a section of Nairobi-bound lanes at a section of Mombasa Road on Sunday and Monday due to maintenance.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 30, KeNHA Director General Kungu Ndungu said that the lanes that are at the Mombasa road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption on  Sunday, May 4, from 9pm to Monday, May 5, 4am.

During this time, according to Ndungu, the authority will be installing the remaining fabricated footbridge beams in the section.

Motorists have been urged to adhere to the directives that will be given by the traffic marshals who will be present on site.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10.00 pm to Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 6.00 am," he stated.

"This is to allow for the installation of the remaining fabricated footbridge beams. KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," he added

The announcement comes hours after the authority also warned of a traffic disruption on the Nakuru-Kampi ya Moto (B17) Road, at Kiamunyi near Riva Petrol station, after a huge sinkhole emerged on Wednesday Morning.

The sinkhole, which was formed after a heavy downpour in the area, prompted motorists to seek alternative routes after the local authorities barricaded the road.

While some witnesses speculated that the sinkhole was caused by the ongoing heavy downpour the country is currently experiencing, authorities have not yet revealed what the actual cause was.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 30, the authority assured that a team has been deployed to ensure that the hole is covered and normalcy is restored.

"Motorists traveling to and from Nakuru, Eldoret, and Baringo are advised to use the diversion road as directed by police and traffic marshals on-site," it stated.

"For safety, motorists should approach the affected section with caution, adhere to the traffic signs displayed, and follow the guidance provided by the traffic marshals and police at the scene," it added.
