Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu received global recognition after she was named a Knight of the Royal Maharlika during an international summit held in the United States this week.
The colourful event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the prestigious We Care for Humanity Royal Summit, where leaders from across the world gathered to celebrate individuals making a difference in their communities.
Nyamu was conferred the knighthood by Queen Mariam Leonor Torres Mastura, the ruler of the Royal Sultanate of Magindanaw, a sovereign monarchy based in the southern Philippines.
The Queen also holds the title of Queen of Maharlika, a royal order that acknowledges people who are actively working to protect the planet and promote peace and positive change in society.
As part of the recognition, Nyamu was also anointed as a Protector of the Earth, Change-Maker, and Peace-Builder.
"Thrilled to be bestowed the honour of becoming a Knight of the Royal Maharlika, anointed as a Protector of the Earth, Change-Maker, and Peace-builder at the globally celebrated We Care for Humanity Royal Summit last night," a thrilled Nyamu wrote on her Instagram page while announcing the recognition.
The Knight of the Royal Maharlika title is a rare honour granted to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to humanitarian causes, environmental protection, and peace-building.
The Royal Maharlika Order has been awarded to only a few African leaders over the years.
Nyamu was awarded alongside other leaders from around the world, including King Jude Michael Mudoma, Senator Maya Olivia Rumantir (Dignitary Woman of Asia), and Dr. Nem Singh Premi, a human rights defender.
In her acceptance speech, Nyamu encouraged Kenyan youth not to be timid, but rather to use the opportunity they have to speak and act, and make a difference.
"This award does not just reflect my journey but an enduring spirit of resilience, service, and transformation that defines the people of Kenya, and particularly the people of Nairobi County, whom I proudly serve. I dedicate this award to them," Nyamu said.
For being awarded the title of Knight of the Royal Maharlika, Nyamu is expected to uphold principles of love, integrity, and compassion, and contribute to global humanitarian efforts.
Nyamu also announced that she had secured scholarships and start-up capital for youth in Nairobi through partnerships with various global philanthropists, signaling hope for needy youths.
