National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has sent a warning to Kalonzo Musyoka, cautioning the Wiper Party leader against the emerging political alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wetang'ula, while speaking during a women's empowerment event in Kitui Central on Monday, June 9, described some members of the opposition as divisive, as he urged Kalonzo to avoid allowing Kenya Kwanza's adversaries to dictate his political affiliations.

“To my brother Kalonzo, don’t allow anybody to make friends or create enemies for you. Your friends are not necessarily someone’s friends, and your enemies are not someone’s enemies,” Wetangula said.

Without directly naming Gachagua, the Speaker appeared to take aim at the former Deputy President's recent political tactics, describing him as a 'man driven by a spirit of bad temper'.

Wetang'ula also reminded Kalonzo of the Wiper Party's time in government, dating as far back as the early 2000s. According to Wetang'ula, Kalonzo, who served as former President Mwai Kibaki's number two, was doing himself a disservice by attaching himself to Gachagua.

He added, “Whoever you (Kalonzo) are associating with has a spirit of bad temper. Kalonzo, you are not of that character. They have nothing to offer. Leave them alone and come join us.”

Wetang'ula also directly addressed Gachagua's recent viral political remarks when the former DP referred to one community as his 'cousins'. The Speaker was adamant that such comments had the potential to split the country along ethnic lines.

“In Kenya, we have no room for ethnical politics,” Wetangula declared. “The other day, I saw along Mombasa Road a leader claiming Kambas are cousins. First, that was a lie. And secondly, those comments have no place in politics. We don’t want a situation where another community feels isolated.”

Notably, President William Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet also called out Gachagua on the same issue a day earlier.

Kalonzo has, in recent times, adopted his former ally Raila Odinga's playbook, as he has intensely championed President Ruto's ouster in 2027 with the support of Gachagua.

Using the now-popular slogan 'Wantam', the Wiper boss has insisted that he would not relent and that the newly formed alliance, which also features Eugene Wamalwa and People's Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua, would stand united until the next polls, which are less than three years away.

This is despite the fact that the alliance has yet to field one candidate who will rival Ruto in the next elections.

During his latest public engagement in Voi, Kalonzo was adamant that the Kenya Kwanza government needed to be bundled out in the next poll, solely based on the current state of affairs in the country.

“There are many reasons why the president should not be re-elected in the next elections. Kenyans have decided not to allow politics of falsehoods, graft, and a high rate of tribalism in government appointments," Kalonzo spoke in Voi.
