MCAs in Isiolo are seeking to impeach Governor Abdi Guyo on various grounds including alleged abuse of office.
The motion seeking the governor's ouster was filed by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana. The motion has garnered near-unanimous backing, with a whopping 18 members supporting it.
In the motion obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the governor is facing accusations of misuse of public resources and irregular appointments.
Interestingly, several MCAs allied to the governor also backed the motion, which was filed on Monday, June 9, to be read on Tuesday, June 17. The motion was seconded by Chari Mca Meja Golicha.
Governor Guyo's tenure has been punctuated by controversy, with allegations dating as far back as 2024, when there were escalating tensions between county leadership and national oversight bodies concerning the accountability and management of public resources.
On June 10, Guyo came under fire after failing to honour two invitations to appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Health to address critical issues in his county.
Irregular hirings have also been a point of contention during Guyo's tenure, with the governor getting flagged by the Senate County Public Accounts Committee for employing 36 advisors, whilst the law only approves four.
According to the Senate County Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, the irregular hiring constituted a massive wastage of public resources.
The governor is also alleged to have employed two Deputy County Secretaries instead of one, effectively breaching the law.
The most recent piece of controversy Guyo battled involved comments made against Senator Fatuma Dullo at a recent public event.
Guyo courted controversy during Madaraka Day Celebrations in his county when he accused Senator Dullo of lavish spending as he questioned the Senator's relationships.
In the explosive comments, the governor also implied that Dullo was using public funds to fund her lifestyle after the Senator's request to allocate her development funds.
