Moses Kuria, a senior advisor within President William Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), has hinted at making a return to elective politics in 2027, with the presidency among the positions he is eyeing.
Kuria, who has recently been giving mixed signals and teasing possible alignments with opposition political parties despite his role in government, stated that nothing would stop him from contesting in the next presidential election, joking that the only seat he is not eligible for is Women Representative.
According to the former Gatundu South lawmaker, his experience in the private sector, governance, and active politics makes him best suited to lead the country, especially at a time when the nation is somehow divided and in need of unifying leadership.
''There is a possibility that I will run for president in 2027. I am more than ready and have all the necessary qualifications. The only position I cannot vie for is Woman Representative of Kiambu, but for all the others, I have every qualification,'' Kuria stated during an interview on Citizen TV.
On the question of which political vehicle he would use, Kuria—who recently teased a bid for the Secretary General position in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party—revealed that he is currently in talks with the party over the possibility of joining.
However, he noted that if Jubilee does not accommodate his vision, he would have no choice but to revive and use his own party, Chama Cha Kazi, to pursue his presidential ambitions in the 2027 elections.
Kuria stated that he remains open to collaboration but emphasised that he would not hesitate to chart his own path if political negotiations stall.
The 2027 race has already begun to attract interest from various potential contenders, with early positioning and party realignments gaining momentum across the country.
''We are talking with Jubilee, but I have a party despite giving them an offer. Whatever happens, I have an opportunity to make a difference, however little it might be. For me, I cherish an opportunity to be able to make a difference even if it's for the day,'' he added.
The former Trade CS stated that his presidential term would focus on health, agriculture, job creation, and economic mobility.
Kuria, at the same time, criticised some government officials whom he accused of hiring goons to disrupt peaceful protests and cause havoc to the youth.
Following the passing of Gatundu South MP Jossy Ngugi, Moses Kuria was elected unopposed in 2014 on a TNA party ticket. He later retained the seat in the 2017 general elections under the Jubilee Party, serving a full five-year term until 2022.
