Motorists in Nairobi have been warned about a potential traffic disruption that might affect normal traffic over the weekend or a private charity event.

The event, scheduled to begin at 7am at the Waterfront Mall, will involve hundreds of participants taking part in two charity runs, spanning 7 kilometers and 4.8 kilometers on Saturday.

According to the event route maps, the affected roads include sections of Lang’ata Road, Ngong Road, Dagoretti Road, Miotoni Road, Bogani Road, Karen Road, and Warai Road.

These roads form loops around the Karen Hospital and Waterfront Mall, and will experience temporary closures or restricted access during the early morning hours on Friday.

The main 7-kilometre route will start and end at the Waterfront Mall and will pass through the Karen Hospital area before winding through Brookhouse School, Polo Streets, and various residential roads.

Meanwhile, the shorter 4.8 km loop will create a triangle along Lang’ata Road, Ngong Road, and Dagoretti Road.

Organisers are working closely with Nairobi traffic police to ensure the safety of both participants and motorists.

However, drivers are advised to plan ahead to avoid a snarl-up, especially those going around the Karen area, or use alternative routes to minimise delays.

Meanwhile, Nairobi residents and motorists have been urged to brace for traffic disruptions across various parts of the city this weekend as a number of key roads will be closed for hours for the fourth edition of the Nairobi City Marathon.

The marathon, which will take place on Sunday, 6 July, will be the biggest one yet, with organisers estimating that at least 15,000 participants will take part in the event.

Ahead of the monumental event, several roads have been cordoned off to facilitate the marathon, meaning traffic will be disrupted from as early as Saturday, 5 July at 10pm.

Notably, the Nairobi Expressway will be the most affected, as it will be closed from James Gichuru all the way to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in both directions. This closure will take effect from Saturday, 5 July at 10pm, until Sunday, 6 July at 3pm.
