The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced continued rainfall in several parts of the country over the next five days, from Friday this week to Tuesday next week.
In its advisory published on Friday, July 11, Kenya Met stated that rain is expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and north-western Kenya.
In the Highland East counties, light showers were expected in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
A similar weather pattern was predicted in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County.
However, the Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall in the counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu.
A heavy downpour was also projected in Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.
According to the department, the heavy rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms, with the downpour expected mainly in the afternoon.
While most parts of the country were projected to receive rainfall in both moderate and heavy amounts, the counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta were expected to be largely cloudy for the five days.
The Weather Department also revealed that temperatures across multiple regions, particularly Central Kenya, the Rift Valley region, and the Lake Victoria Basin, would experience minimum temperatures of around 11°C.
"Cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley," Kenya Met announced.
Counties in these regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, Nairobi, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Kisii.
Others are Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.
