Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has confirmed that he has received two global awards that recognise his humanitarian efforts.
In a statement on his official X account on Monday, August 4, Sonko said that he was awarded the Civility Voice Diplomats Global Humanitarian Award, which acknowledged his efforts to promote peace, civility, and humanitarian values.
Sonko was then awarded the Ichange National Builders in Action Legacy Award by Builders in Action to recognise his efforts to enhance the lives of others by making personal sacrifices.
The awards were presented separately to the former Nairobi boss at his Upper Hill office by the CVD President, Dominic Obadiah, and the ICN special envoy.
"The awards were presented to me at my Upper Hill office during two distinct ceremonies. In the first ceremony, I was honoured with the Civility Voice Diplomats Global Humanitarian Award in recognition of my unwavering dedication to promoting peace, civility, and humanitarian values on a global scale," Sonko said.
"In the second award, the Builders in Action awarded me the I Change Nations Builders In Action Legacy Award. This award recognises my unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of others by making personal sacrifices in terms of both time and resources," he added.
Welcoming the awards, Sonko asserted that he will not backstep in his efforts to ensure that the lives of underprivileged members of society are elevated.
"I extend my sincere gratitude to Dr. Reuben West, ICN Special Envoy, and Dr. Clyde Rivers, the President of ICN. I am dedicated to continuing with my efforts to assist the underprivileged members of our society in enhancing their lives," Sonko said.
It is not the first time Sonko has received global awards recognising his humanitarian contribution. In 2019, he was awarded an honorary degree of excellence by the European Digital University (EDU).
In the same year in France, Sonko was awarded the Milan Pact award for the Urban Early Warning and Early Action Tool, which was designed to identify food insecurity.
Additionally, the No End to Love organisation awarded Sonko, together with his Sonko Rescue Team, an award after they successfully rescued a four-year-old boy whose father and only parent was stabbed and killed by thugs.
"The award was bestowed by Margaret Heighton, the president and founder of No End to Love, an international organisation based in the USA, along with her husband, Dave Heighton," Sonko said.
Other awards bestowed upon Sonko include the East African Humanitarian Personality of the Year and the esteemed World Peace Messenger award by the World Peace and Diplomacy Organisation in Los Angeles, USA.
