A major traffic disruption occurred Monday morning on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway after a Guardian Angel bus caught fire at Soysambu.
The blaze caused a heavy snarl-up on the Nairobi-bound lane, leaving many motorists stranded in long queues.
Photos and videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed the bus engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the air as bystanders and motorists watched in shock.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, with investigations expected once the scene is secured.
No injuries or casualties had been reported as of the time of publishing this story, with the company yet to release a statement on the incident.
Additionally, it was not immediately clear whether the bus, a Public Service Vehicle (PSV), had passengers on board at the time of the incident.
Motorists and commuters have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.
Such fires in PSVs are not uncommon on Kenyan roads, often triggered by mechanical issues such as overheated engines, broken fuel lines, or leaks in the oil system.
Long-distance buses are particularly prone to overheated brakes when navigating hilly or high-traffic areas, as drivers rely heavily on rear brakes to regulate speed.
In April, another Guardian Angel bus caught fire near the Gitaru Interchange connecting Wangige to the Southern Bypass, forcing passengers to scamper for safety.
Videos and photos of the incident obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the back left side of the bus badly burnt, with witnesses reporting that the fire started from the rear wheels, which had jammed.
Firefighters responded swiftly and managed to contain the blaze before it spread further. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and all passengers were safely evacuated.
