The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a two-month traffic disruption affecting motorists using Waiyaki Way, Limuru Road and Mai Mahiu Road.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 19, KeNHA explained that the disruption along the three major routes was due to the temporary closure of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange.
The Authority revealed that the interchange would be closed for two months, from Friday, August 22, to Friday, October 31, 2025.
According to KeNHA, the closure is necessary to allow scheduled road works for the reconstruction of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange, including slip roads, loops and approach roads.
While making the announcement, KeNHA urged motorists planning to use the section of the road to seek alternative routes to reach their destinations.
Motorists travelling from Waiyaki Way to Mai Mahiu were advised to join the Old Naivasha Road just after Rubis Tilisi and proceed straight to Mai Mahiu.
Similarly, drivers heading from Mai Mahiu to Nairobi City were directed to turn at Mutarakwa Junction onto Limuru Road and proceed to join Waiyaki Way at Kwa Mbira Flyover.
"Traffic from Ruaka, Ndenderu or Kabuku will proceed to Limuru Town and join the highway (A8) at Kwa Mbira Flyover," the Authority directed motorists.
In its notice, KeNHA advised motorists to approach the section of the road with care and to follow the traffic management plan and project road signs.
Additionally, the Authority disclosed plans to deploy police officers and traffic marshals to manage traffic once the road maintenance works commence.
Meanwhile, the latest development comes as KeNHA begins maintenance of several roads across the country, including the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway between Makupa Bridge and Changamwe Interchange.
On Monday, August 19, KeNHA announced the temporary closure of the Interchange from August 23, 2025, to September 7, 2025, to allow for road construction and drainage works to ensure seamless road connectivity along this section.
