The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged Nairobi residents to prepare for cold mornings, cloudy conditions and occasional showers this weekend, as it announced that most parts of the country will experience rainfall, cold conditions and strong winds from August 22 to August 25, 2025.
In a weather forecast, the department stated that rainfall is expected in the Highlands to the east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and parts of northwestern Kenya.
The department predicted that counties such as Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kericho and Bungoma will experience showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons, with maximum temperatures averaging between 27°C and 29°C.
In north-western Kenya, counties such as Turkana and Samburu are expected to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, though there will also be sunny intervals.
Daytime temperatures in the counties will range from 31°C to 33°C, while night-time temperatures will range from 9°C to 13°C.
Residents of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including those in Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu and Meru, are urged to prepare for cold mornings, cloudy conditions and the occasional shower. Maximum temperatures will range from 24°C to 26°C, with chilly nights dropping to between 7°C and 11°C.
The department stated that counties in the north-eastern region, such as Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit and Isiolo, will experience mostly sunny intervals with occasional showers expected from Sunday.
These counties will also experience high temperatures, reaching up to 37°C during the day and dropping to around 14°C–16°C at night.
In the south-eastern lowlands, areas such as Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta will experience cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals with a chance of light showers on Sunday. Daytime highs will stay around 28°C to 30°C.
The weatherman predicted showers in the mornings and evenings for counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu, with sunny intervals during the day. Temperatures will remain warm, averaging between 29°C and 30°C during the day and between 21°C and 22°C at night.
The department issued a warning to regions such as the Coast, the Southeastern lowlands, the Northeastern region and the Northwestern region of Kenya, stating that they will experience strong winds.
southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.8 m/s), are expected along the coast and in the south-eastern, north-eastern and north-western lowlands.
Residents are advised to follow updates from county meteorological offices and take the necessary precautions, particularly if they live in areas prone to flooding or storms.
