Former Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has said he would turn down a job offer from President William Ruto, stating that he is satisfied with his current status.

Speaking during an interview on TV47, Tuju noted that he is currently preoccupied with personal endeavours, including managing his private businesses.

According to him, he is living a happy life outside politics, and his freedom gives him the leeway to criticise either the government or the opposition.

"I am very happy where I am at the moment, I am enjoying a private life, I enjoy doing things that I like to do, and I can talk without worrying what is the position of the government or the opposition," Tuju stated.

"I don’t want it, I do not need a job. I have over a hundred employees, and it is very difficult to pay someone like me. I create jobs. I am not looking for a job so that I can get positions to make deals."

Tuju also weighed in on whether he would consider returning to the Jubilee Party if offered a chance. The former party Secretary-General downplayed the matter, stating that the future of Kenya was more significant than mere party politics.

The former Jubilee principal emphasised that the current brand of politics in Kenya was no longer about the party but rather about matters affecting the whole nation, including having credible elections.

"I do not think it is about the party, where we are going, it is about the country. It is about the construct that we can have in this country that will ensure we have credible elections," Tuju affirmed.

During the interview, Tuju further criticised the youth-led protests recently witnessed in the country, particularly in June and July this year, terming them an illegitimate attempt to overthrow Ruto's administration.

He warned that such acts of violence against a sitting government could plunge the country into a state of anarchy and lawlessness, such as those witnessed in some African countries, including Somalia and South Sudan.

"As long as someone has been elected, you do not throw them out illegitimately. In countries where that has happened, like Somalia, they have never been able to recover," the former Jubilee leader cautioned.

"In countries where the military has taken over, they stayed in power for over 40 to 50 years. In Sudan, where they sometimes had the Gen Z uprising, where are they right now?" he questioned.
