Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed significant progress in the investigations into the murder of prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was killed along Magadi Road in Nairobi.
Addressing the press on Thursday afternoon in Migori County, Murkomen said that detectives had already identified persons of interest in Mbobu's murder and that the said individuals were being interrogated.
He also noted that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were in the process of identifying more people linked to the Tuesday evening incident.
According to the CS, several witnesses had already come out to provide information, and the detectives were in the process of piecing together the details.
"We have been in touch with the DCI since this thing happened, and I am happy to note that there is some progress. Some persons of interest have been identified," Murkomen revealed.
Adding that, "Those persons of interest are being interrogated, and so many others are going to be sought. We thank the eyewitnesses who have already come out who were at the scene and many others who are giving information to the DCI."
While assuring Kenyans of a speedy probe, Murkomen called on more members of the public with information regarding the incident to reach out to the nearest police station.
Murkomen went ahead to mourn the deceased, terming him a hard-working, eloquent, and knowledgeable individual. According to the CS, Mbobu was one of his best law teachers in the university.
"This is a very sad thing that has happened in our country, and it is akin to what happened to Ong’ondo Were. I feel very sad because Mbobu was my teacher and my friend," the CS noted.
Murkomen's update comes a day after DCI officers announced that they had already commenced investigations into Mbobu's murder.
According to DCI, Mbobu was shot on Tuesday, September 9, by unknown people along the Magadi Road while heading to his home after several meetings within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
During the preliminary investigations, detectives recovered three used cartridges, with the probe further revealing that Mbobu was shot five times in the head, killing him on the spot.
A post-mortem on his body is expected to be done on Thursday, September 11, led by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
