EACC Puts Estates Linked to Obado Allies on Sale in Nairobi, Kisumu & Migori

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has engaged three companies to facilitate the auctioning of 10 properties linked to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his allies recovered during a graft case into the officials.

In a notice published in a local daily on Monday, September 22, the commission invited interested Kenyans to bid on the properties spread out in Nairobi, Kisumu and Migori counties.

"The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, in exercise of its powers of sale as granted by various Courts, shall sell the undermentioned properties by public auction. The Commission has engaged the services of Galaxy Auctioneers, Keyslan Auctioneers, and Astorion Auctioneers to conduct the said auction as per the details provided below," the statement read in part.

In Nairobi, EACC is auctioning five properties, starting with a three-bedroom apartment in Riara. The property is located along Riara Close off Riara road within the developments identifiable as Riara Apartments.

It is among 49 other apartments in a 6-storey, four-block apartment building. Additional facilities include a gatehouse, a gym, a pool house, a swimming pool and a common kitchen. Each apartment also has an allocation of one parking space and an additional visitors' parking space. The apartment on auction is on the first floor.

The second property on auction in Nairobi is a two-bedroom apartment located off Savannah Road within Greenspan Estate and on the Ground floor of Block 0. Another apartment, registered to the same person, is another two-bedroom apartment on the ground floor of Block U.

A terraced Maisonette on a rectangular-shaped plot with domestic staff quarters and boundaries marked with a masonry wall and a steel plate gate owned by the same person is also available for auction at the same estate.

The last property on auction in Nairobi is a townhouse located off Waiyaki Way within Loresho Ridge Estate, about 700 metres North of Waiyaki Way, branching at the Shell stage/signboard to Kenya Sugarboard, opposite Mountain View Mall.

Its boundaries are marked by a live hedge with access through a steel grille gate hinged on concrete pillars. It is developed with a double-storey house and a domestic servant.

The auction for all the Nairobi houses will be carried out by Galaxy Auctioneers at Pangani Auctioneer Centre on October 9, starting at 11:00am

In Kisumu, the commission is auctioning a property within the Savannah Court in Lolwe Estate through Keysian Auctioneers at Nyaluoyo Auctioneers Offices on October 16, starting at 11:00am.

The property consists of a 4-storey block of flats, 4 parking slots and a 2-bedroomed unit (master ensuite) on the ground floor and two 2-bedroomed units on each of the first, second, and third floors. It is already equipped with water, electricity and a septic tank.

In Migori County, four properties are available for auction by Astorian Auctioneers on October 16, also at Nyaluoyo Auctioneers Centre in Kisumu.

The first property is a 0.12-hectare or 0.297 of an acre parcel of land on the Migori-Kisii Road plot fenced with a masonry wall topped with a 6-strand electric fence wire fence. 

Access into the property is via a double-opening steel plate gate with a sentry room inside. The compound is paved with concrete blocks with two detached commercial buildings.

Another one is a 0.09 of a hectare or 0.222 of an acre, plot developed with identical residential blocks with 10 apartments each. It is approximately 300 metres to the north of Kadika Girls Secondary School and 1.2 kilometers to the South East of the County Commissioner's offices in Migori town.

The other property on auction is a 0.09 of a hectare or 0.222 of an acre off Rongo Town-Homa Bay Road, about 40 metres to the North of El-Bethel Academy and next to the Lutheran School within Rongo Township.

It is developed with a three-bedroomed bungalow, a block of three semi-detached two-bedroomed rental units, a block of two semi-detached two-bedroom rental units, a caretaker's cubicle, and a latrine cum raised water tank platform.

The last property on auction is a plot situated about 1.1 kilometres off the Migori Town-Isebania Highway to the South East of Migori TTC in the Wuth-Ogik Area, Migori Municipality. Migori County. It is next to a church premise called Luo Nomiya.

Interested purchasers will be required to pay a refundable deposit of Ksh500,000 via a banker's cheque to the commission. 

They should also pay a deposit of 10per cent of the purchase price to EACC by the close of business of the auction day, failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the auction deposit without further reference to the purchaser and the balance of 90 per cent within 60 days from the date of sale.
