A tragic accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, on Monday, September 22, has claimed the life of a prominent tycoon, Dennis Kasyoki, from Makueni County.
The accident, which happened in the Athi River area, Machakos County, happened on Monday morning after the businessman's double-cabin vehicle collided with a trailer that was reportedly transporting goods from Mombasa to Congo.
According to police reports, the businessman attempted to pass the trailer and then suddenly tried to return to his lane, causing the trailer to collide with the car from behind.
Photos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, show the trailer's container had overturned and landed on top of the vehicle, completely crushing the driver's side.
The businessman is said to have died on the spot, while the other passenger sustained injuries and was rushed to the nearby healthcare facility.
Following the incident, security agencies and rescue teams were sent to the scene to assess the situation and tow the two vehicles to restore the normal traffic flow along the busy highway, which was partially disrupted.
The crash adds to the rising cases of road accidents along major highways across the country.
Just a day before, another driver lost his life along Outering Road after his vehicle veered off an elevated stretch of the road along the service lane and plunged several metres down.
According to witnesses, the driver of the personal vehicle died at the scene, but authorities have yet to provide any confirmation regarding the incident.
It is unclear what exactly led to the incident or how many occupants were in the vehicle, but no other vehicle was involved in the accident
"They have just rolled over from up there, and you can see it is upside down; the driver has gone, and everything has stopped," one of the witnesses said.
Photos and videos circulating online showed the vehicle overturned with the upper section completely destroyed.
