The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has published details of the upcoming mini-polls as it steps up preparations for the by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025.

In Gazette Notices published on Friday, October 31, IEBC provided list of nominated candidates, polling stations, tallying centres and areas where elections will not take place due to uncontested seats.

The commission declared that there would be no contests in the Mitkei and Tembelio wards, as the candidates nominated in these areas would automatically take office without a vote, as they had no opponents.

According to the commission, the notice offered clarity owing to its mandate to ensure transparency and avoid unnecessary polls where competition is absent.

In a statement, the Commission urged all candidates and political parties to strictly adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct, emphasising the importance of peaceful and transparent campaigns.

“The Commission has officially published the requisite Gazette Notices in preparation for the upcoming By-Elections scheduled for November 27, 2025."

"These notices provide crucial details on: The list of Nominated Candidates, the Declaration of No Contest for Mitkei and Tembelio Wards, the designated Polling Stations and the specific Tallying Centres,” IEBC stated.

UDA Candidates Unopposed

The notice came days after the commission issued a public warning on October 24 about a fake gazette notice circulating on social media.

The notice claimed IEBC had declared the winners of the November by-elections ahead of time.

It claimed the electoral body declared two candidates duly elected as they were allegedly running unopposed.

The two were United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidates vying as Members of the County Assembly for Tembelio and Metkei wards respectively.

In a statement, the IEBC clarified that it had not issued an official gazette notice declaring any candidates duly elected.
