Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) employee over allegations of forging academic documents.

EACC on Friday morning said it arrested the employee who allegedly faked the documents in an attempt to seek promotion within the Commission.

The Commission received allegations that the officer presented a forged Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies and Public Administration certificate, purportedly issued by Moi University.

EACC detectives immediately commenced investigations, and it was established that the document was falsified and that the suspect knowingly presented it as genuine.

Upon completing investigations, the Commission forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who concurred with the recommendation to institute criminal proceedings against the suspect.

The suspect was cornered by the EACC sleuths on Wednesday, November 19 and arraigned on Thursday, November 20, where he was charged with several counts.

He was charged with forgery contrary to Sections 345 and 349 of the Penal Code, uttering a false document contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code, and deceiving a principal.

Appearing before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, the suspect denied all charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh200,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh500,000 with one surety of a similar amount.

While warning Kenyans against forging academic documents, the anti-graft commission reiterates its commitment to combating fraud and upholding integrity within the public service.

The officer's arrest is part of the Commission's coordinated efforts to curb the surging cases of government officials forging academic documents to acquire jobs.

Just a fortnight ago, EACC officers arrested a Nairobi City water official for allegedly using a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to secure employment and fraudulently acquire public funds amounting to Ksh6.2 million.

The Nairobi city employee was apprehended after the Commission received reports that the suspect had forged a KCSE certificate to secure employment at Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) as an ICT Assistant.
