Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has urged the Nyanza region to repay President William Ruto's political debt in the 2027 general elections.

Wandayi said this during the launch of rural electrification projects at Kagito, Uriri Constituency, Migori County on November 21, 2025.

The CS told Migori County residents to support and vote for President Ruto in the upcoming general elections.

"You understand that we did not vote for President Ruto's government but this time round we must ensure that we put all our votes together and vote for President Ruto," the CS reiterated.

Wandayi reminded the residents of how President William Ruto supported the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's presidential bid during the 2007 elections. The CS said that Ruto's campaign for Raila is a debt that the Nyanza region owes Ruto for supporting one of their own.

"In 2007 when Raila Odinga was campaigning for presidency, President Ruto stood with Raila and that is even the reason why Ruto was taken to The Hague because of ODM, Odinga and because of we the Luo community. So we have a debt to repay William Ruto," Wandayi said.

The Cabinet Secretary insisted on the need for the Nyanza region to be part of President Ruto's voting block in the upcoming elections as a way of repaying Ruto's debt.

The CS, who is one of the ODM experts in the broad-based government, is among the ODM leaders pushing for the party to support President William Ruto's re-election in 2027.
