A report submitted before Parliament has revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is still conducting investigations into Neno Evangelism Centre preacher Apostle James Ng'ang'a after a viral video containing sexual assault comments.

The widely circulated clip in early October this year allegedly showed Pastor Ng'ang'a confessing that, in his youth, he and seven others took part in an assault on a woman.

The report read before the National Assembly on Wednesday, November 26, highlighted measures taken by the DCI to authenticate and investigate the viral clip.

According to Saku MP Rasso Dido, following Ng'ang'a's revelation, the DCI immediately launched an inquiry into the matter, and the preacher was subsequently summoned.

In his defence, Ng'ang'a clarified that during a crusade held in September this year, at Maili Tatu in Meru, he shared a personal testimony about his life, including his time in prison.

He explained that the sexual assault incident was a fictitious illustration drawn from stories shared by inmates, intended to emphasise that God can redeem anyone regardless of their past.

A request was later sent to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to download and preserve the video clip from the provided link to determine whether it was AI-generated and to furnish a forensic report.

Similarly, detectives moved in to probe congregants who attended Ng'ang'a's sermon with a view to interviewing them and obtaining further investigative exhibits.

According to Rasso, investigations into Ng'ang'a's claims are still ongoing, with detectives still trying to piece together details of the exhibits, including forensic analysis.

"Investigations are still ongoing, with forensic digital results and intelligence analysis being awaited to help in determining the authenticity of the clip," Rasso stated.

He added, "Upon receipt of the forensic report, the inquiry file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for appropriate action."

Meanwhile, the update comes following concerns by a section of Kenyans, including Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, over Ng'ang'a's controversial remarks.
