Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geofrey Ruku has dismissed allegations of voter bribery by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party during the Mbeere North Constituency by-elections held on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The accusations emerged after a UDA agent was ejected from a polling station for wearing party colours and allegedly bribing voters.
CS Ruku, who is backing UDA candidate Leonard Muriuki alias Wamuthende, defended his party's conduct in an interview.
"There is no voter bribery on our side, we have done very vigorous campaigns, and we can say that the people of Mbeere North Constituency made their decision a week ago, and I am sure that they have made their decision that Hon. Wamuthembe is their next Member of Parliament," he stated.
Muriuki faces stiff competition from Newton Kariuki of the Democratic Party, whose party leader is former Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi.
CS Ruku blamed the opposition for causing chaos during the elections.
"The only people who have been causing fireworks, and anarchy, are the fathers of discord, not only in Mbeere North but in the Republic of Kenya," he remarked.
He called on security agencies to ensure peaceful voting.
The by-elections have been marred by violence across the country.
In Malava aspirant Seth Panyako was attacked on Wednesday, November 26 2025.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma was assaulted by a mob in Kasipul during the ongoing polls on Thursday November 27 2025.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya was attacked on Saturday November 23 2025, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was attacked on November 26 2025.
The ruling UDA party and opposition have traded blame over who is instigating the violence.
Each side accuses the other of plotting chaos and attempting to rig the polls.
