The Kenya Defence Forces Rifle Association (DEFRA) emerged victorious at the Highland Minerals Trophy 2025 shooting competition held at the KDF Range Laikipia from December 3-6, 2025.

The event brought together elite shooters from National Intelligence Service (NIS), the National Police Service (NPS) including, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Administration Police Service (APS), and the Kenya Regiment Rifle Club (KRRC).

DEFRA’s win came after days of intense competition, with teams battling for top honours in one of the most demanding fullbore shooting championships in the country.

Fullbore shooting involves long-range precision marksmanship over distances ranging from 300 to 900 metres. It tests shooters’ accuracy, consistency, and focus under highly controlled and competitive conditions.

The tournament's key performer was KDF's Staff Sergeant (Ssgt) Brenda Ajiambo, who outperformed all competitors with a remarkable 544.20 points out of 600 across ranges of 300 to 900 metres.

“Ssgt Brenda Ajiambo topped the overall standings with a score of 544.20 out of a possible score of 600 at distances of 300, 500,600, 800, and 900 meters, leading her team to glory, the ministry stated.

In the individual categories, NPS officer IP Clifford Kiptarus dominated the Super X 1 (SX1) category with 536.37 points, while NIS sharpshooter Moses Wachira secured the Super X 2 category (SX2) with 533.22 points.

NPS extended its strong showing as Christopher Mulongo and Ssgt Fredrick Mwema claimed the X1 shooting category and the O1 categories with 519.34 and 515.27 points, respectively.

DEFRA struck back with Sergeant (Sgt) Nicholas Lengorien winning the X2 category with 519.19 points, while teammate Ssgt Peter Kosgei topped the O2 category after scoring 490.16 points.

The Tier 1(T1) and Tier (T2) categories went to Sgt Antony Mbaluka of DEFRA with 485.24 points and NPS shooter Susanne Njoroge with 482.16 points.

Officials noted that the Highland Minerals Trophy “did not disappoint,” praising the high skill levels showcased across all categories.

DEFRA’s latest triumph adds to a growing list of achievements for military shooters this year.

Earlier this year, the Kenya Defence Forces Rifle Association Pistol Team impressed at the IPSC Handgun World Shoot in Matlosana, South Africa, where Kenya fielded 30 shooters, including ten KDF marksmen.

The team earned praise for its accuracy, composure, and competitive spirit, with their performance positioning Kenya as a rising force in global shooting sports.
