A video of a lone reveller cruising through Nairobi in a hired bus has sparked online chatter about how far people are willing to go to personalise celebrations in the city.

In the clip circulating on social media, the man is seen comfortably seated inside an empty bus fitted with music, decorations, and a Kenyan flag mounted at the back.

The bus cruises along major roads, including the Nairobi Expressway, as the celebrant narrates his plans and proudly shows off the setup, making the moment feel more like a private experience than public transport.

At one point, he welcomes viewers into the bus, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, I have hired this bus to show me around Nairobi ahead of my celebrations.”

The celebrant explains that the bus was hired exclusively for his birthday, leaving him as the only passenger while enjoying the entertainment systems installed inside the vehicle.

He goes on to jokingly compare the experience to flying in luxury.

“This is a private jet, the version that flies on the ground,” stated the man.

The video shows the bus moving along the expressway, a route often associated with speed and efficiency, adding to the sense of exclusivity he wanted to create for the day.

The clip does not disclose how much it costs to hire the bus or which company provided the service.

Typically, Hiring a 32- to 33-seater matatu or bus in Nairobi for a full day generally costs between Ksh 25,000 and Ksh 30,000, with smaller buses sometimes going for as low as Ksh 20,000.

The price usually covers about 12 hours of use within the city and often includes fuel and a driver, though this depends on the company.

The final cost can change based on several factors. Travelling outside Nairobi or covering long distances raises the price, while luxury buses such as Mercedes or Yutong models cost more than standard Isuzu Coasters.

It remains unclear for how long the user hired the bus for, although the rate could be as cheap as Ksh4000 if it was simply for the one-way solo trip via the expressway.
