19 Football Fans Slapped With Charges

19 Gor Mahia football-club fans, were Tuesday arraigned at the Milimani law courts over chaos that interrupted the Gor Mahia and AFC match on Sunday.

The suspected hooligans were charged with malicious damage to property, creating disturbance, assault and causing actual bodily harm.

The Sunday riots saw the much anticipated match between GorMahia and AFC Leopards dubbed,Mashemeji Derby, called off prematurely.

Trouble began when Gor were awarded a penalty after Leopards' captain Jackson Saleh, was penalised for a hand ball.

Furiously angry at the penalty decision, AFC fans started hurling stones and other objects into the pitch.

The referee had to stop the game for a second time as fans persisted with stone throwing.

Anti-riot police were forced to intervene, by dispersing the rowdy fans with teargas.

Rival 'hooligans' proceeded to the CBD where they went on with their clashes. Police managed to arrest some of them.
