VIDEO: Mashemeji Derby Ends Prematurely as Fans Riot

The much anticipated match between GorMahia and AFC Leopards dubbed, Mashemeji Derby, had to be called off.

The match was interrupted at the 65th minute after fans got into an altercation forcing police officers to be involved.

Trouble began when Gor were awarded a penalty after Leopards skipper, Jackson Saleh was penalised for a hand ball.

Leopards fans did not think the call fair, and started throwing stones into the pitch.

The referee had to stop the game for a second time as fans persisted with stone throwing.

The match was caled off after 20 minutes of rioting by fans.

Anti riot police had to use tear gas to disperse the fans from the Nyayo stadium.

Several people were injured.

The Star reports that some Gor Mahia fans were later arrested at the CBD as they pelted stones at Leopards fans.

According to K24, the Kenya Premier League disciplinary committee will decide if AFC Leopards are guilty.

If Leopards are found guilty, Gor will be awarded a win for the match, continuing their unbeaten streak.
