Details of Uhuru's Meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin

It has now emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta recently held a private meeting his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

The meeting which was the first face-to-face encounter between the two leaders was held during Kenyatta's recent tour of China where he attended the Belt and Road Forum.

The two are said to have met in an exclusive venue at the Lanqi Lake Convention Centre on the outskirts of Beijing.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohamed confirmed that the meeting took place adding that she even invited her Russian counterpart to visit Kenya.

“They (President Kenyatta and Putin) had a discussion and I had a discussion with my counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. I invited Mr Lavrov to come to Kenya and he said he is going to look at it and give a response very soon,” stated Ms Mohamed.

The CS did not divulge details about the meeting but indicated that the talks hinted at having renewed engagements between Kenya and Russia.

Kenyatta was in China for the infrastructure Summit where 28 leaders had been invited to discuss among other issues, trade relations.
