One man was reportedly shot dead on Saturday along the Marsabit–Garba Tulla junction in Isiolo County hours a few hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s rally in the town.
The man identified an Ibrahim Mohammed was reported to have been shot during a peaceful political procession in Isiolo where supporters of the Jubilee party were having a roadshow.
Isiolo County Gubernatorial aspirant Abdul Buhari while addressing the media stated that a General Service Unit (GSU) officer shot at the 21-year-old man while he was running away from the commotion.
The gubernatorial aspirant explained that the incident happened when he and his team including Isiolo North Member of Parliament Joseph Samal, Senator aspirant Mohammed Liban and Woman Representative aspirant Rehema Jaldesa were addressing their supporters during a peaceful procession.
“We did not have a chance to address the public during the presidential rally, so we decided to address them during our peaceful procession,” Mr Bahari stated.
Isiolo Medical Superintendent Stephen Kiluva confirmed the incident stating that the man was brought in dead.
The incident caused in the town, angry supporters barricaded the Isiolo-Marsabit road with stones threatening to take matters into their own hands if the government failed to arrest the officer within 24 hours.
Isiolo County Commissioner, Mr George Natembeya, on his part, noted that local residents own illegal firearms and alluded to the fact that an illegal firearm might have been used in the incident.
He, however, assured the residents that investigations were on and anyone found guilty will be dealt with firmly.
