Ol Donyo Sabuk Bridge, Kenya's Dumping Ground for Bodies

A bridge in Machakos County is raising eyebrows after it made headlines for its gruesome badge of being a popular spot to dump the bodies of people killed under mysterious circumstances.

According to residents, they are at a loss to understand why the bridge was becoming a popular spot for dumping bodies of people who were probably being killed elsewhere.

Top in the list was the recent heart-wrenching discovery of the body of Baringo Member of County Assembly (MCA) Thomas Minito by children who were heading to school.

Minito’s body was found under the bridge last Friday, five days after he went missing with eyewitness accounts stating that he was last seen being whisked away by two people suspected to be police officers while having lunch in Kabarnet.

Three people who went to view the body after the discovery were quickly arrested by police.

Second in tow was the gruesome murder of Nairobi lawyer Willie Kimani and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri and their bodies dumped also at the bridge on July 1, 2016.

The 32-year-old lawyer, along with his client disappeared after a court appointment and their mutilated bodies discovered over a week later sending lawyers to the streets to demand justice into the killing.

Third, was the mysterious disappearance of a former Moi University student, Shukri Mohammed, 24, who went missing from his mother’s home in Kaptembwo estate, Nakuru town and his body discovered a week later at the bridge.

According to a resident who spoke to the Standard on condition of anonymity, more bodies were being dumped at the bridge than was being reported in the media.

“In fact, most people only get to hear about it when it involves a prominent person, like the lawyer who died last year or the MCA (Minoti),” said the source.

He noted that the findings were suspicious considering that no one has ever been apprehended while dumping the bodies, yet a police station was situated nearby.

The bridge separates Kiambu and Machakos counties.
