MPs Adopt Report Recommending Investigations Against Anne Waiguru

The National Assembly has adopted a report by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

The lawmakers on Wednesday approved the report which recommends that former Devolution Cabinet Secretary who is Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant, Anne Waiguru, undergo investigations, lifestyle audit and be barred from holding any public office if found guilty over the scam.

Earlier, the Committee presented to the House, its findings of the special audit of the NYS accounts which accused Waiguru of overall leadership failures during her tenure at the Ministry.

During a debate on the report, the lawmaker insisted that all those who had been mentioned in the report be held accountable for the scam that saw the country reportedly lose more than Sh1.2 Billion.

According to the Committee Vice Chairman Jackson Rop, the scandal had been well planned and orchestrated by senior officials.

“This matter made some of us make enemies. The saga was a well-designed, well-orchestrated, and planned. From the probe, we discovered that government funds are not well utilised. Our efforts should not go down the drain,” stated Rop.

Waiguru has already been given the Jubilee certificate after winning the Kirinyaga gubernatorial nominations against incumbent Joseph Ndathi and MP Gachoki Gitari.

A section of lawmaker had blasted the party accusing it of issuing certificates to Waiguru and other leaders mentioned in the scandal who had won in the nominations.
