NASA's Official Campaign Kicks Off in Kakamega County

Heavy security has been deployed ahead of the National Super Alliance (NASA) official campaign rally led by flag bearer Raila Odinga in Kakamega County.

The NASA team is expected to unveil the Western Region Investment Conference that involves several programmes geared towards economically empowering the four counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga and Busia as well as Trans Nzoia.

NASA principals including Odinga, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford-Kenya boss Moses Wetang'ula and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto will first converge at the Golf Hotel before heading to the Bukhungu stadium in a convoy of vehicles.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who is looking to defend his seat in the August polls had earlier urged residents to turn up in large numbers.

"You should all turn up in large numbers at Bukhungu Stadium to send a powerful message to Jubilee about where our support lies. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto should know that voters in Kakamega are fully behind Mr Odinga," Mr Oparanya stated.

Western Region Police Coordinator Moses Ombati urged all aspirants to hold peaceful campaigns and avoid disrupting normal business activities in the town.

The Kakamega meeting will be followed by a rally in Kapsabet on Sunday and Machakos on Monday.

The Opposition will then head to the Coast Region on Thursday where they will split into two groups, one covering Lamu and Tana River Counties and the other covering Mombasa and Kilifi Counties.
