The secrecy behind a lobby group that has organised a fundraising dinner in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid, is raising eyebrows.
According to a local daily, the lobby group - Friends of Jubilee Foundation - behind the dinner to be held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, is a closely guarded secret.
Jubilee members including Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria declined to reveal the faces behind the foundation but maintained that the group was only raising funds to support President Kenyatta.
“You cannot name the names behind the foundation but they are friends of Jubilee Party and President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Kuria.
Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe, however, revealed that the foundation was legally registered with the NGOs Coordination Board but could not disclose names behind it.
“Friends of Jubilee Foundation is a registered NGO; other political parties have similar formations and nobody has ever raised a question about the faces behind it,” posed Murathe.
In an advert over the weekend on a local daily, The Friends of Jubilee Foundation invited Jubilee supporters and well-wishers to a reservation-only dinner to raise funds to support the President.
“The Foundation invites you to support the future of Kenya at a dinner with President Uhuru. Come let us put our efforts together for our beloved nation,” read the advert in part.
It is however not clear if President Kenyatta would attend the dinner.
