Nakuru Senatorial Aspirant Susan Kihika's Nomination Nullified

Nakuru Senatorial Aspirant Susan Kihika on Thursday suffered a major setback after the  Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) nullified her nomination.

The tribunal chaired by Kyalo Mbobu ruled that  Ms Kihika was ineligible as she had not resigned as Nakuru County Assembly Speaker as required by the law.

"A declaration is hereby issued that Ms Wakarura’s candidature for the Nakuru County senatorial seat on Jubilee party ticket is unconstitutional," the Tribunal ruled.

The Tribunal also stated that the Jubilee Party had violated the law by presenting Ms Kihika's name as its candidate before she resigned from her post.

This followed a petition had been filed by Margaret Wanjiru Kiiru, who is eying the same position as an independent candidate.

Ms Kihika who is a member of the Jubilee presidential campaign team won the Jubilee nominations overwhelmingly in April after she garnered 192,596 votes against her rival Karanja Kabage who had 30,916 votes.

The former US-based Lawyer was elected as County Assembly Speaker after unsuccessfully contesting a parliamentary seat in the 2013 general elections.

Ms Kihika is the daughter of the late Veteran Politician Kihika Kimani.
