Jubilee MCA Aspirant Yahya Ahmed Basode Arraigned in Court for Assaulting Officers

A 32-year-old Jubilee Party MCA aspirant is facing imprisonment after he was arraigned at the Lamu Law Courts for assaulting police officers.

Yahya Ahmed Shee alias Basode, who is vying for the Mkomani Ward seat, is facing several charges of incitement and assault.

Basode is accused of taking part in unlawful riots outside the Lamu Law Courts earlier this month that resulted in the injury of police officers.

The MCA aspirant together with other youth, who were not present in court, was accused of physically assaulting police officers Fredrick Machini and Paul Musamuli during the riots.

During the fracas, two police officers and two civilians are reported to have been injured as the rowdy youth tried to rescue the convicts; Zamzam Mohamed Salim, Ali Mzee Ali and Athman Yusuf Ali, from police custody.

The MCA aspirant and his accomplices were accused of physically assaulting police officers Fredrick Machini and Paul Musamuli during the riots.

The accused are alleged to have instigated the violent riots two weeks ago in a bid to free prisoners who had just been sentenced and were being escorted to jail.

The riots resulted in the assault of officers who were trying to calm the situation down after the disputed sentencing by Resident Magistrate Njeri Thuku.

The controversial aspirant denied the charges and was released on a Sh100,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount.

The case was adjourned to be heard at a later date.
